This isn't really written by Lee...Suzan hacked in and is adding an article. On the way to Kapadokya, we stopped to see (and walk on) the salt lake. It is the second largest lake in Turkey, but the exciting part was that the salt is so thick that we could walk on the lake. Now we can all say that we've walked on water and we're telling the truth!! It was almost like we were walking on sand, but under the dusty stuff (salt) was really a lake. we could make holes in the salt and see the water less than an inch below and we didn't fall into the water when we made the holes. I would think it should work like ice and that we should fall in if we made holes in it, but the salt was still strong even with holes in it. |

Home again! The flights home were pretty uneventful...we managed to get home with all of our luggage, no missed flights, we made it through customs ok, and none of our breakables packed in our luggage ended up broken even though we watched 2 of our bags fall from the airplane to the ground missing the conveyor belt completely. Not too bad.
Keep an eye on the blog over the next week or so. I will have some updates, at least 1 more photo gallery, AND as an added bonus, some video of Erdodu's driving in Ankara. |

On Tuesday, July 10, three American tourists were kidnapped on the green between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. The three tourists were minding their own business, when they were approached by a man who spoke very good English and gave them tips on visiting both the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. He continued on that the Kilim museum was closed on Tuesdays, but that his family's museum was open and asked if they would like to see it. It was right around the corner |

On Thursday, Alex and I went to a Turkish bath. Turk's friend Yilmaz took us, although he didn't go in since he has high blood pressure.
The bath was an experience! Yilmaz took us to a bath that was supposed to be 600 years old!
First they showed us to a room to change and keep our stuff, which they locked behind us (we had the key on our wrist). The first step in the bath was to rinse off. They took us to a large room with an octagonal marble table in the middle. There were private stalls lining the room. Inside there was a marble basin with hot and cold running water. We were instructed to rinse off.

I think I have the blog set up now. I
still need to fix the image in the title bar so that it doesn't
say "Bento Box" --that's actually the template title. Hopefully I
should have that fixed by my next big upload.
The biggest update here is that I am now using Blogg-X 2.12 to
manage my posts, So...I should be able to manage posts a bit
easier. Alex has been monopolizing the laptop at night, so I am
just now getting a chance to catch up on posts.

Internet access is few and far between.
There are many internet cafe's, BUT we've been very busy, and we
haven't really had a chance to go to them often. My last posts
were all from Ankara at an internet cafe there. The connection was
OK, but it wasn't as fast as my connection at home. Right now I am
on a but from Istanbul to Ankara, and amazingly enough, there is
internet on the bus...slow to be sure, but it is working. My
connection is about 1KB (not the 4MB that I'm used to) so it's
less than dialup speed (and I only have about an hour of battery
left.) |
