Driving in Turkey has really been an experience! Starting from the time "Uncle Charlie" (Erdodu) picked us up at the airport, it became apparent that driving here is a totally different experience!

First off...lines on the road are TOTALLY for decoration only! Places where there are lines on the road to indicate 3 lanes, drivers routinely make 4 or 5, even 6 lanes at some times. I've watched as Uncle Charlie went from the far left lane to a right hand exit across 3 marked lanes of traffic! An amazing feat of driving, only accentuated by the fact that he's not the only one doing it--EVERYONE drives like that!

Cars (and trucks and busses) seem to have amazing properties...they can bend, dissappear, and come within inches of each other without hitting or damaging each other!

Horns...
In America, when you hear a horn, but usually sounds like "Hey you asshole! You freakin' cut me off! Get out of my way you jackass!!" Here horns mearly mean, "hey lookout, I'm here and I'm not stopping!" Nothing rude about it, jut a friendly reminder that I'm here, don't hit me!

On the bus to Cappadocia, however  the "interstate seemed to be better than driving in the city. In Istanbul, driving was exactly the same as driving in Ankara.

On Saturday, we are driving to Alanya with Uncle Charlie. It's a long drive (8ish hours), so I told Uncle Charlie that I would help him drive, but I wouldn't drive in a city. I am driving on the interstate only...so look for a post from Alanya on driving!
